what student leadership is about

We believe that students make some of the best leaders!  We seek to involve students in all aspects of the senior high ministry, from Summit planning to event planning to community impact to leadership in other areas of the church.  You are welcome to consider getting involved in any of the leadership areas below or think up a new area!  Try something out, discover your gifts, and have a great time doing it!

student leadership teams

summit vision team

Be a part of a small, core group of students that have the opportunity to envision where the Summit is going - what topics we study together, what events we do, what types of service we involve ourselves in, and more.  Our next Vision Team gatherings will be Sunday, April 26, 2009 and Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 9:30-10:30 am in the youth office.  RSVP ahead of time by talking to Alex.

youth group: the next generation leadership team

Summit students provide leadership for the 5th & 6th grade youth ministry at UCC. The team is coordinated by Youth Pastor Alex Wright. Youth Group: The Next Generation meets on Tuesday nights from 7:15-8:30 pm. Student leaders are expected to arrive by 6:30 pm to go over logistics and pray and stay until 9:00 pm for cleanup and planning. Occasional leadership training meetings will also happen throughout the year. Interested in becoming a leader? The application process is the same as it is for Edge & Summit Staff, so visit that page and fill out an application! Current leaders need not fill out an application form every year, but must renew their commitment sheet each year.

the summit band

Summit students lead the group in worship at Summit gatherings and retreats. The band is put together each week from available band members. The team is coordinated by Vennyei Angshing.  Do you play an instrument?  Want to help lead or get in the rotation?  Talk to Vennyei!

community impact team

This team of Summit students seeks to coordinate and lead service opportunities for the Summit. Various opportunities include child sponsorship (we support Vrinda, an orphan girl in India, through Compassion International), the rotating cold weather shelter, STEAC, Davis Community Meals, Loaves & Fishes, raising awareness about justice issues locally and around the world, serving as a liaison between Summit and various school service clubs, service events such as 30-Hour Famine, and more. The only limit is your creativity and availability!  See the Community Impact page for details on specific opportunities.

welcome team

Summit students welcome people at the door on youth group nights, help them get connected to other students, write welcome notes, and are generally very cool people to hang out with! Want to help ensure that others are welcomed as much as you were? Join the team!

media team

This team serves the entire Summit behind the scenes by operating the computer & sound system on Summit nights, taking pictures & video at events, maintaining the Summit website, and generally doing all sorts of fun techy things. Have some cool tech skills you'd like to share with the group? Or don't know how to do it but want to learn? Talk to Alex to get involved!

prayer team

This team seeks to lift up Summit students and leaders, UCC, and our community in prayer. Want to serve by praying? Join the team!  Talk to Barb or Judith to get involved!

lead in other areas at ucc

There are tons of areas of ministry at UCC in which you can serve as a leader!  You can work with babies in the nursery, toddlers in the preschool, or kids in the elementary ministry.  You can serve as a leader for our Summer Day Camp for kids or for Kidmo, our high-energy Sunday morning program for older elementary students.  You can bake cookies in the kitchen, serve as a greeter or usher, be on a chair setup team, or play in the band.  You have important gifts and talents that you can use to serve the church!  To find out how to get plugged in to any of these areas, contact us!

new teams?

There's no rule that says students with a heart for leadership can't lead in a new area that isn't already on this page! If you have certain gifts or passions that don't fit into any of these categories and want to start a new ministry, feel free! Talk to a Summit leader to share your ideas!
